Culinary Training & Experience
Chef Vera’s formal training began at Michigan State University, where she earned a degree in hotel, restaurant and institutional management in 1987. She continued her culinary education at Schoolcraft College School of Culinary Arts. Her formal training was put to use under Chef Ed Janos at Too Chez in Novi, Michigan. She studied and traveled extensively in New York and France.
She also expanded her international experience by working at the Caribe Hilton Hotel in San Juan. Chef Vera also spent one year as a catering supervisor at the world-famous Zingerman’s Delicatessen in Ann Arbor, here she was able to hone her event organizational skills.
In addition to Chef Vera’s “on-the-job training”, she was also the host of Now You’re Cooking, a local cable program from in the mid nineties. Here she was able to bring the kitchen to her viewers and share tips and secrets from her kitchen.
Prior to the launch of Ambrosia Gourmet Catering, Chef Vera was the co-owner of 2 Unique Caterers and Event Planners, a Bloomfield Hills-based company specializing in corporate lunches and high-end private receptions and dinners. In 1995, Chef Vera opened Ambrosia Gourmet Catering, where she coupled her extraordinary magic in the kitchen with her event and planning skill set, to create a one-stop shop for any style event. With a focus on details and a palate for the delectable, Chef Vera has created a company that truly caters to each and every one of its clients. From small private dinners, to upscale wedding receptions, to large hoe-downs, Chef Vera creates not only a menu, but an atmosphere that astonishes every guest.
Chef Vera is no stranger to hosting celebrity guests, from Congressmen to celebrity photographers, to radio hosts. She also offers catering and planning services for schools, business functions and private events. Chef Ambrosia Gourmet Catering embodies all of Chef Vera’s experiences, while tailoring events to the wants and needs of each client.
Vera Ambrose, the chef/owner of Ambrosia Gourmet Catering has over 30 years of culinary experience creating everything from incredible dinners for 25 people to awesome events for 5,000 guests. She is the former host of “Now Your Cooking” television show that aired on cable stations throughout Michigan. Most recently, she studied under the chefs of the famous Gramercy Tavern in New York City.
Chef Vera only uses the freshest ingredients and provides the highest level of service and attention to detail. Her specialty is to make her clients “a guest at their own party”. She will take care of everything and your event will truly be a divine and unforgettable experience.
